I am running 2x 7970, one with overclocked gpu, one with underclocked mem:
GPU 1: 1100gpu/1375mem at 72 C : ~650 Mh/s
GPU 2: 1000gpu/1100mem at 87 C : ~600 Mh/s
DiabloMiner

The card that runs hot (underclocked mem) will drop in rate to ~400 and to ~78 C when I'm not using the computer. When I come back to the computer, the rate immediately goes up again. Any ideas what might be causing the drop? TIA.

Do you have any power saving features enabled which kick in when the computer is idle for a while?

Hard drives turn off after 20 mins, monitors after 45. I'll try disabling monitor auto-off and see if that works.

Interesting, I wondered why my hashrates were low as well, I always thought the pool sites were wrong, how did you record it? Does diablominer record the stats?

Perhaps we'll both get a little more mining done Smiley

Hi,
You should set your computer in high performance mode that will fix the problems. Control Panel ->Hardware->Power Options

DiabloMiner gives 5 pieces of info while running:
  • instantaneous hashrate
  • average hashrate
  • accepted
  • rejected
  • hw error

I just record the average hashrate myself before I quit out with ctrl-c.

LOL...was it that simple? I'm in power saver to reduce my processor from sucking too much juice. Let's see what it'll do.

In addition to what everyone else has said, even though your monitors turn off do you have a screen-saver that runs?  It may sound stupid but where I work we had a policy on some virtual machines (VDIs) and the "monitor" would turn off but a screen saver would kick on and the CPU would shoot through the roof since there wasn't a dedicated GPU for the Virtual machines.

Couple that with a sleep/low power mode and that could really hammer your processing power.
