K.im (by Kim Dotcom) is a service that use Bitcache which is a technology made for micro transactions (bitcoin). Both are coming soon, I managed to get an invitation and I guess you could always grab one by sending your email here: https://k.im (It takes a couple of days)

Here is a short video on Bitcache will be integrated on YouTube (I believe this is going to really take bitcoin mainstream): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOAvSwX7Aqc
As for K.im, you are basically uploading a file and asking for a payment for it, regardless on how the amount is small, It doesn't really matter. It's also adjustable, people can make limited giveaway of whatever content they have uploaded and they request other users to pay for it etc. This could definitely be huge for bitcoin as well, as content creators will be able to sell directly to users with no third party interference.

I've been following Kim on Twitter and will probably invest in this project.

Tried to get an invite but it does not work.

I tested it on the very first days and looks super promising

I was able to upload a file & insert a price in bits (what he call bits are microbitcoins). Is possible to set up bitcoin prices on websited like google dirve, dropbox, the new yourk times, 4chan,  youtube ... but I don't know how will this work only that will be a browser extension avaliable

It's also posible give to the first ex:200 downloads for free, this will avoid scammers

It's a nice idea, but generations have grown up expecting to pay for nothing on the internet. And when there is a fee for something people will often spend a whole hour or two of their valuable time looking for a way out of paying for it.

I'm happy to micropay myself, but I wonder how many out there are up for it. Kim's whole fortune comes from people not wanting to cough up for anything. Still, I'm sure some creative things will come of it but perhaps not what was initially expected.

Downloading files is dead. I mean files containing movies, software, etc.  Streaming movies took over downloads (especially illegals) People now prefer watching a movie in streaming instead to download. Not even talking the fact it is not allowed to download illegal kinds of stuff in some countries, which helped greatly the streaming market

I'm not sure about the error you are getting, I personally didn't need to do anything except putting my email address. Do you mind linking me to the ICO mailing list btw?

It's far from being dead. If people (content creator) find an alternative, they will use it, no body wants to use third party services to earn less, this is a direct way to sell to the users.

this is what i have also been saying from day 1 that Kim talked about how they will implement micropayments in his project and make megaupload that you can ask for money. but the issue is that as long as everything can be found for free, nobody is going to pay for it.

and as for what Omega said about "content creators" i don't get why they would want to use this service though! they can do it directly themselves without a third party.

Weak hands have been complaining about missing out ever since bitcoin was $1 and never buy the dip.
Whales are those who keep buying the dip.

So K.im is like satoshibox and selly.gg linked to blockchain right? Plus the ability to distribute it to other platform. Not sure if I understand the whole thing, but it doesn't amaze me. Can't think of what advantage this service can offer compared to other alternatives.

While for Bitcache integration to Youtube, that sounds ambitious. That is what every cryptocurrency supporters wanna see in the near future, an adoption by the giants. Hope they deliver.

What is the difference between K.Im and Satoshibox? About Bitcache, what's the need to use a third-party service to donate to youtubers? Bitcoin made possible to send money without using intermediate services...many youtubers already put their Bitcoin address in the description box below the video, so I think there's no real need for such a service.

I think this sums it up pretty good for a lot of things like information and youtube content. Honestly, pretty much anything you want to know you can just get for free. There are a lot of things people want to know and will pay money for it. Unfortunately, there is always some person out there that just gives it away for free.

You want to learn about investing? Boom, there is Investopedia and youtube channels. You want to learn about tuning pianos? Boom, there is a website out there. You want to learn how to play poker like a pro? Boom, there is the 2+2 forum and online videos. Your car is broken and you need to fix something. Boom, there is a forum of people giving free advice on your particular problem. Having trouble with your code? Boom, stackoverflow is there to help you. Sometimes they'll write you your code for free. You want to read a certain book? Boom, you can read a PDF document with all the pages online. No need to even download. You want to listen to music? Boom, you can listen to any song for free on youtube, grooveshark, and a bunch of radio apps out there.

I remember a new gambling game came out that no one had played before. Low and behold, someone was stupid enough to post all the statistics to the game and a great strategy guide on the internet for free. I guess the thought didn't occur to him that keeping that information secret would allow him to profit off it. Who knows, maybe he enjoyed getting "thank you" comments from random people. Perhaps he just doesn't like money.

Also, the youtube video shows somebody donating because they are happy with the content they are being shown. I don't see many people doing this. I know I probably wouldn't. I like my money and am selfish that way. Meh, I could be wrong though. There are people out there who tithe.

Charities and tipping people is different though. That is more personal. A youtube video is for entertainment or information to a very wide audience. Don't get me wrong, people love to pay for entertainment and information, but if they have the opportunity to get it for free they'll take it. If there is a large group and they are anonymous they most certainly will take it. If a buddy of yours offers you a spot on his Netflix account you aren't going to say "Thanks for the offer, but I'd really like to give back to Netflix and sponsor them by paying $10 a month."

I tend to agree. I think Yours is a fantastic example of an idealistic idea (micropayments to fund the content you love) that doesn't work in practice. I suspect the more traditional route of patronizing will turn out to be more lucrative. Services like Patreon seem to be taking off in the Twitter/microblogging sphere. We'll see, though. I know this project has been really hyped, so maybe I'm getting too cynical in my old age.

Is there any evidence that major services like YouTube are actually going to integrate Bitcache? It's not obvious from the above video...
