Hi all,
So AMD just released new Driver:AMD Radeon Adrenalin Edition 18.12.2 drivers.
Among many new stuff- there is now an option to change Memory timing :Automatic/Level 1/Level 2 - and they apply on the fly when you choose "Apply", not even a restart is requierd!.
I did small test with oclmembench on my RX 470 4GB Hynix on Stock Bios 1206MHz/1750Mhz.
Timings -Automatic: 165 GB/s
Timings -Level 1:     169 GB/s
Timings -Level 2:     182 GB/s

Level 2  @ 2000MHz Mem OC: 195~200 GB/s

Have you tried it and compared results? I think it's nice by AMD to provide this option- what do you think?

Thank you for this information! I'm going to try this option and check how it will change hashrate of the mining. I hope it will give some additional gain.

Interesting. Anyone tried this with Vega 56/64's yet?
Polaris have been moddable via bios for ages so this is potentially just a "handy tool" that does basic mem timing tuning.

But if it works on Vegas it'd be an improvement for sure. I'd be curious to hear if anyone has experience to share. Failing that I'll try myself when I get a free moment.

Yes it's just great handy tool without going thru Bios editing/flashing/Pathching etc, Lok like AMD paid attention to the Miners and their needs (also when they added GPU task swithcer for Compute/gaming).

I head that for Vega there are even more options for tuning and power mods, also Auto Under-volt feature.

P.S - Can some Devs figure out how they are applying custom timings on the fly so they can make nice utility that applies our Custom Timings? I remember old days of Gefore 6X00 (2005~ era) that there was a small utility that let u customize the timing on the fly so later you could Flash the best timing that you found.

Today we have EthPill for Nvidia 1080 and up...

This would be a game changer for multalgo miners, ETH and XMR mining. Just change straps on the fly

You know what would be a game changer?
If AMD stopped forcing you to use effing Wattman to do this.

Haven't been able to test much unfortunately as the above piece of fantastic software just keeps crashing. But from what I was able to test, it didn't give much extra hash on XMR. Won't be testing EThash or anything else because I'm reverting to 18.6.1.

Tested on rig mix rx 470/480/570/580 bios 1 click,
really problematic, wattman crash or slowed down , no additional hash on srb /jce  for Haven , after several hash loss tests on gpu 4GB ,8GB no evolution simply stable .
Low voltage = gpu crash with automatic or 1 and 2.
3 not present for my rx 470/480/570/580.

back to 18.6.1 driver ,no wattman.

AMD did this for the gamers who are buying used cards off of eBay that have strapped bioses..  it's a way to adjust timing back without reflashing the stock bios...

This is one possibility however I don't think its the reason. Just a coincidence that it was added at a bear-market with GPUs being sold.

If someone sells a GPU on eBay and they don't flash back the stock bios and the buyer has issues with the GPU, they risk of getting bad feedback and having to perform a return on the GPU and risk losing money on shipping both ways.

I am pretty sure most people kept a copy of the original bios and just re-flashed it during the sale. The memory straps weren't the only adjustments made, some people adjusted the voltage, memory, core clock, etc. Hence its essential for a stock bios re-flash.

Latest Phoenix miner doesn't support these drivers, so there is no need in such improvement. It seems to me that AMD GPUs with modded BIOS work stable and good enough without such option.
