By that time, there was nothing to buy with bitcoin, there was no service accepting it, and there was only Mt.Gox as exchange, which centralized trading. When Mt.Gox fell, the ecosystem fell alongside it.

Now, the ecosystem is much more complex and decentralized. And any ATH is followed by corrections.

It probably is a bubble, but if people are actually using it for trading and more companies are accepting it - then maybe it has just reached the correct value. Nobody can predict the direction it is heading, but any investment that is jumping hundreds of percent in value each year is highly risky.

I wouldn't necessarily compare this to 2013's bubble, but yes it's a bubble nonetheless, a drop from $1000 to $200 is a huge drop from the looks but the same drop from $6000 to $5200, which is exactly same in the amount but it would so much of a drastic drop because of the relative price.

While this years gains have been amazing, it's still nothing compared to what we saw in 2013. The final bubble of 2013 saw 10x growth within 2 months. This time it took almost a year to reach close to the same result. Insane growth, yes, but not as mad as 2013.

That being said, it would be naive to believe that this bull market is going to go on indefinitely. Question being how high it will go and how hard it will drop. But even in case of a major correction, 3 years recovery time are not that bad. It took the S&P 500 close to 6 years to recover from the housing crisis and 7 years to recover from the dot-com bubble. And it's still more or less the gold standard of investment vehicles.
