I got a Ledger nano and I can't sign a message. It's not supported by default. I figure out after a lot of times trying

Being really frustrated about it I decided to import my ledger nano on a Electrum wallet, everything goes smoothly with the import but at the moment I want to sign a message it crashes.

So basically I corrupted my seed and I didn't manage to sign a message.

Do you have any suggestion? What can I do?

Do you still have your seed somewhere, can you import that into electrum (if you copy-pasted it is it still on your clipboard)?
Did you ever get a copy of your private keys, can you use them?

If you open electrum and click the "addresses" or hit ctrl+a (cmd+a for mac) do you get the sae addressesand the same balance displayed in them?

I have my seed, I didn't restore the wallet though thought it.

I had connected my ledger, and made a new wallet on Electrum choosing the option, import from hardware wallet. However doing so won't let me sign the message.

Try to import your wallet in Electrum directly from your Ledger seed and sign the message.
Just use your Ledger seed and select the BIP39 checkbox when importing the seed. Or convert it to a BIP39 seed by using this tool[1];

Hey there

Thanks a lot for your reply

I imported the seed on the Electrum Wallet and selected BIP39, however the wallet is empty,it doesn't show any history. So I wonder to know if I did it in the right way.

Is this tool to convert safe?

When you select BIP39, Electrum does NOT do any error checking on the text entered. So, if you got one character incorrect it would not detect it, and you would end up generating a different wallet to your Ledger wallet.

Try and restore from your Ledger seed again, but this time TRIPLE check all the words are spelled correctly, no capital letters etc.

Also, what derivation path did you use? It should be m/44'/0'/0' for a ledger wallet.

Also, The Ian Coleman till is safe, but still recommended to download a copy of the page and run offline (instructions are actually at the bottom of that page Wink)

Actually you can sign a message with ledger wallet.
You have to go into the options menu. There is a option to sign messages. Then you can choose one of your X addresses in your ledger wallet and paste text to sign.

As long as you still have your seed everything is fine. Clear your electrum wallet and try to reinitilaize it with your seed.
But as mentioned.. this is not necessary (and not recommended because of security concerns!!) because you can sign messages with ledger wallets..

The Use of a Hardware wallet is to have your coins secured and private keys encrypted without them losing your ledger.
If you use the same seed in electrum you are supposed to a lot of attacks and your HW wallet is kind of.. useless.
