I believe that the significance of it is for the forker(people or group that are forking the bitcoin). They were the ones that benefits on this. Because all in here are business minded and will do everything in order themselves to reach top.

Their are changes of procedure, rules and updates for it to be operate better independently. i think that is the significant role of hardfork to a digital currency Bitcoin cause they using techniques in verifying and transferring transaction.
