I read in the main CNC thread that the block chain may have forked into as much as 3 different paths so I thought it was worth starting a new thread to bring it to peoples attention.

I wouldn't mind a summary from someone that has looked into what actually happened, and when it happened, please if you have the time. Also any advice on what people holding CNC should do?

No. Some people are releasing their own version of modified clients, thus the "fork".

Ok so it's not something that's a result of say a 51% attack on CNC, it's just people pumping out different clients.

That's not a bad thing then.

I thought CNC was dead, but at this rate it might actually make it to the next difficulty retarget.
