Advice on learning how to evaluate currency

Hi all,

Can someone point me in the direction of any information on how best to evaluate new crypto currencies.  I am new to all this (duh, in the newbie section) and besides looking at what is earning the most on sites like coinchoose and coinwarz, I have no basis for evaluating what currency might have legs for the future.

There seems to be so many new coins and most the posts I find on the board either decry one or promote one and I get the feeling that depends on the coin position of the author and not so much the fundamentals of the currency.

Anyone out there have some advice on how best to educate myself.
