Well, unless bitcoin gets atomic swaps or some other decentralized exchange capability its probably going to get replaced. From what I have heard and seen LN isnt looking so good for that.

DASH: It has decentralized governance, meaning coin holders can vote for improvements. Unlike Bitcoin, only solo asic farms and pools can vote for BIPs. It also has half the circulating supply, so I would expect it to be worth twice the amount Bitcoin can be if circulating supply is anything to account by. Ive looked into dozens of altcoins, and seems DASH has their act together the best. Along with alot of marketing, and hosted conferences. Along with very low fees, fast transactions (nearly instant with instantsend). And then they have masternodes, another tier of mining.

Yes I already have Monero in my list, together with Ethereum Classic. I have not done any exploration in Aeon, but I heard it has one developer only. That is not very reassuring in my opinion.

Everyone, what about Decred? I heard good things and market capitalization is still low.

Ethereum is the best altcoin in your terms. They have a plan of making it proof of stake, however its distribution is already proof of work. Some say that it is premined, but I do not think this is a big thing for such a big volume coin.

They have indeed a good team of developers in leadership of Vitalik Buterin.

If you are a Bitcoin maximalist, and looking for another long term coin. The second big volume coin Ethereum seems best for you.

I think it a good time to invest in a platform projects, which now has a low market cap. Good choice for now is Waves and NEO.

Monero would be the most preferable choice right now.
Firstly because it has a very strong development team.
It's completely anonymous and keeps the identity of the sender and reciever private.
Within two to three months its price can rise upto $300 per annum.
Most people are suggesting Ethereum but it has already seen a large jump in its capital in the recent months, so its price will not go up much in the coming year.
