Is GPU mining more for beginners than Asics?

Hi All, i recently got into gpu mining. Now that i have a good understanding of it, I'm thinking of only going with asics in the future. They're smaller, and work out of the box with less maintenance.

It seems if you're looking to make a big investment, asics are the way to go. Would you agree? Gpu mining seems more for beginners just getting into mining.

I think ASICs are for beginners for sure since as you said it yourself, they're much simpler/easier.

GPU mining, especially if you're mining coins manually and not through something like nicehash is more complex but earns you more if you spend the time researching coins. There's not much options for ASICs in that regard.

Depends what you mean by "beginners". For ASICs, you are probably looking at a few thousand $$$ investment, plus high electricity consumption, plus noise. ASICs also lose value very fast, so you want to get them ASAP after they are released, which means buying them from China from potentially untrusted sources, deal with customs etc. Once they are outdated, ASICs are basically worthless, while you can always sell old GPUs on ebay.

So yeah, ASICs might work out of the box, but in my opinion it is much much easier to mine with GPUs unless you invest some serious time and money into ASICs.

GPU mining is a lot of works, and you have to know a lot of knowledge.
For GPU mining you will spent a lot of time to update system, driver, software... and each update can broke all you mining process : very difficult...
ASIc mining is alot easier : it is near of "plug and play".

I agree with everything said so far. The only "beginner" angle to GPU mining is it's more accessible to beginners
because it can be done with consumer hardware that many beginners already have and doesn't need a large initial
investment.

The existance of an ASIC for a particular algorithm does suggest a level of maturity for that algorithm and tends
to make GPU mining obsolete but it's not like taking the training wheels off a bicycle. As far as snobbery goes, it's
more about the coin than whether the algo can be mined with an ASIC.

Asics are harder to get but easier to maintain and vice versa for GPU mining rigs.
It might be really difficult to get your hands on an ASIC but once it's setup, you're hassle free.
You can get GPU's and all parts your need instantly over internet and build your rig in 2 weeks, but all the configurations and different settings are definitely far more difficult to handle than the settings of an ASIC.

Well ASICs aren't as simple as you vision them. In case of GPUs, you get six of them and install a mining rig or even 2, 3 or four of them and put them around the house and still not feel them. I'm talking about noise and a noticeable increase in electricity bill.

But that's not the case for ASICs miner. They make a lot of noise, produce a lot of heat, need a lot of wattage. And of course they cost a couple thousand dollars. They need special treatment if you plan to install a few of them as you need to manage air circulation and stuff for cooling.
Noise is a real thing. You can't do what you do with a gpu rig and keep it in your bedroom.

Well nothing is simple as it seems. Everything has its own issues. I don't get what maintenance you're talking about. Once you get a gpu mining rig set up the right way with a stable hashrate, you're done. Like for a few months.
You'd literally have nothing to do with it except maybe selling the coins you mined.

Anyway, if you just wanna test it out go for it but I was trying to give you a small summary of what lies ahead.
