Number 1 is correct. If you've noticed the price of cryptos, generally when BTC is up the other alts are up as well. Every now and then they are different, but usually they go with each other. I believe this is due to the fact that people that get into altcoins probably own bitcoin as well. The more people that get into bitcoin the more likely they are to get into alts and vise versa.

It is possible that very far down the road people could see the value in bitcoin and all the other cryptos could collapse. For sure, some cryptos will collapse, but there may be some that hang along with Bitcoin.

Number 1 makes sense in the short term. Number 1 or 2 could be possible in the long run.

My answer is, at what time?.
1-->if BTC moon then ALT will be down, in a very short period of time.
2-->If BTC moon ALT will be moon, most of the time, this is the most likely. Tongue

It completely depend upon scenario you can devide them to two scenarios one is trusting and untrusting . When people start untrust bitcoin which is the main source of all altcoins then alt will dump like china regulation and august first fork. Now people start to trust only bitcoin or they start to invest on bitcoin for getting free forked coin like btg then alt fails. Everything is temporary in cryptoworld who is having patience they will be real winners here.

With logical point of view, when bitcoin goes up, alts should go down. And most often, it happens like that. You can see the past two month graphs to see this in practice.
But sometimes the second one also happens, if happened in the past when bitcoin went up some of the alts also went quite high.
So there is no exact pattern to it, but mostly, it is the first option.

There is no correct answer to your question because it can be both ways. For example, in the first half of this year, both bitcoin and altcoins had been rising massively, so your second point seems to be a correct answer. But right now we see the reverse situation when bitcoin goes to the moon, though not quite there yet, while altcoins go down. Every of these two cases may have one or more explanations, but this just proves that it can be any way depending on particular circumstances. Right now it seems like people are buying bitcoins and selling altcoins because they hope to get free lunch like it happened in August with bcash. On the other hand, if fresh money gets poured into cryptocurrencies from outside, both bitcoin and altocoins will rise.

And altocoins may rise even faster at that simply because it requires less money to boost their price.

My opinion about this is that both of them can happen in different altcoins out there. as years of observing in the market some altcoins go down when the bitcoin price go up and some of them go up when the btc price increases but we have to consider different aspects about the prices of them, popularity, demand, events and happenings, forks and so on, Case to case basis.

there is no correlation that will always work.. the market is full of uncertain scenarios.. the last 2 weeks, BTC has been rising like mad, while altcoins were bleeding.. but the total market cap remained almost the same, so in fact all money was shifted from altcoins to BTC, getting ready the investors to get some BTG (shitcoin worthless by the way).
so if btc rises, altcoins can rise, drop, go shopping, dance Lambada... who knows exactly what will happen and when?¿? impossible.. better advice flow like water my friend (by Bruce Lee).. be flexible and ready to take decisions, like assuming losses and take out of your bag that coin that isnt profitable. Take a look at the market always and dont follow just your sentiments..

All kinds of subcoons fall down. A big drop in BTC is damaging the bottom coins. All of them need to rise together.

it is not run that way my friend,
there're a lot of complicated thing that we need to know about the market and the sentiment.
right now the market showed us a weird action by pumping bitcoin to whole new level,
it's very unpredictable and more likely we will see another run.
if we see another run,we should see the alts bleeding so badly later on.
right now it's not like before and totally manipulated by peoples
