I know that at idle "entire system", with one of my 280x killawatt read@ 100 watts. @mining alt. coins it jumped to 390- 400watts my killawatt said.

I am just chipping in my experience with one 280x and a killawatt.

ok, that doesnt sound good. anyone else?

It really depends which algo you are using it to mine, if you are mining scrypt-n with overclocking then x750 is enough but it would not last long (almost 100% usage). If you are mining x11 then it would be really good cause the usage is only like 50%.

to be safe always use a surge protector with mining eqp http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2121504
I was running two msi r9 280xs off a 850w and it fried itself

Very true. Just about anything even an old tv, use a surge suppressor.

Here's mine to protect my investment. Not all products have arrived yet. But my surge suppressor had. Scroll through the thread.

Very true it also depends what algo you are mining, any scrypt will be hardware intensive.
