Hello all of you cryoto-coiners out there.
I made a rooky mistake yesterday.  I had my bitcoin stored on a paper wallet before the fork on Aug31st.  I successfully loaded it to a newly created electrum wallet.  I then transferred it to a newly created electroncash wallet.  The transaction was successful in that it emptied out my bitcoin balance from electrum and is now confirmed on the blockchain showing that my electron address received it and holds the balance.  Unfortunately, the electroncash wallet shows a zero balance also.  I have since learned that electroncash doesn't recognize bitcoin.  If this is true, why is that transaction now confirmed?  How do I regain access to my btc (& bcc).  PLEASE HELP ME!!

First, understand that both Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash can share the same address - that's why the transaction got confirmed in the first place. What happened is that you had X Bitcoins and X Bitcoin Cash in your wallet (the same amount in the same address). Both coins are there, but the difference is that you can only see and spend each of them with a compatible wallet for each coin.

In your case, you can only see and spend your Bitcoins with Electrum, and you can only see and spend your Bitcoin Cash with Electron Cash. You basically sent Bitcoins (and not Bitcoin Cash) from your Electrum wallet to your Electron Cash wallet.

Now you have:
1. The first wallet with Bitcoin Cash and no Bitcoins (since you sent the Bitcoins with Electrum to a different wallet, and the Bitcoin Cash is still there since you need Electron Cash to spend them);
2. Your new wallet (from Electron Cash) that has your Bitcoins and no Bitcoin Cash.

How to fix that:
1. Get the Bitcoin Cash wallet file - that you just created and you sent Bitcoins to - and open it with your Electrum. You will see your Bitcoins there.
2. Get your FIRST WALLET (the one you used to send the Bitcoins in the first place) and open it with you Electron Cash. You will see your Bitcoin Cash there.

Now just spend them as you like. I know that it may sound confusing, but I tried to explain the best way I could.

Did you import or sweep the BTC from your paperwallet to Electrum?

If you used "sweep" then you BCH is still on your old paper wallet... if you used "import", then it should theoretically be there, but I suspect the subsequent transaction moving the "BTC" might be confusing Electron Cash.

Simply import your old paper wallet private key directly into an Electron Cash wallet and your BCH should be available Smiley

I cannot but share in your  joy because I know  what it feels like to be in situation such as this especially if you are lost on what to do. But I am happy for that you were able to redeem your bitcoin and at the same time came to the right place to source for information be cause of you had fallen in the hands of scammers, both your bitcoin and the bitcoin cash would have gone without any sign of returning no matter how small.

Like I almost fell victim of one few days ago just because I want to claim BTG got across to this site designed with every graphics you can think of concerning BTG only to ask for private key which before seeing my BTG balance which I almost provided if not I double checked.
