I recently created a Changelly account. I have had Electrum for a few years and have used it somewhat frequently.

Without getting too complicated or confusing, here's what happened:

I wanted to send .0004 BTC to Changelly for Stellar Lumens - about ~110 Lumens at the time.

I proceeded to (try) to send .0004 BTC to the address provided by Changelly. Though, my internet connection was a little spotty, as I later noticed. As well, Electrum was having problems with connecting to a server. Furthermore, in the interest of giving as much information as possible (I'm not remembering the exact sequence of events), there's a chance that I had an older version of Electrum installed during one or more of the transactions.

Basically, out of three (3) attempts of conversion, only one (1) went though. The first two attempts at sending .0004  BTC for ~110 Lumens did not go through, as indicated on the Changelly history tab. BUT, BUT -- and here's the problem -- Electrum showed ONE transaction completing for ~.0012 BTC. The history on Electrum shows not three attempts, but only one attempt - for 3 x .0004.

In short, the two transactions that didn't go through Changelly, DID "go through" Electrum. The balance/math on Electrum shows as much. Though, the transaction details and information on blockchain.info show that the transaction was only for the previously stated .0004 BTC, but my account has been reduced by ~three times that amount. I've, basically, been shorted or have somehow lost .008 BTC due to.... Huh

Hopefully this is explained clearly enough. Anyone know what's going on or what happened?

I haven't had any issues with Electrum in the past, and am not sure this is something to be worried about, necessarily (other than being out of BTC, which is a problem, but at least it wasn't all that much, I suppose), but it does have me scratching my head and wondering what the heck.

Thanks to anyone reading.

Edit: grammar, clarifiction

For the time being... ignore what Electrum is telling you with regards to the number of transactions and amounts. It's possible the servers have got a bit "confused" with the multiple send attempts/connection issues etc... and it's possible your failed transactions may be "stuck" in your wallet causing issues.

Instead, instead of relying on Electrum... go and check to see what the blockchain says about it all... Goto your favourite block explorer and input the addresses and/or the transaction IDs that you can see in Electrum. That will tell you what has ACTUALLY happened according to the blockchain.

Alternatively, you can post your Transaction ID(s) and/or addresses here (if you don't mind giving up some privacy) and we can investigate for you.

Ok, I appreciate the reply.

I posted this on reddit, also, fwiw, and got a similar reply.

I uninstalled Electrum and redownloaded it, hoping that restoring from seed may fix the issue.

Upon installing and opening Electrum, my wallet and associated history was still there without restoring from seed. I presume that the electrum.dat file/s weren't deleted upon uninstall (or other files?)? Either way, I then proceeded to make a "new" wallet using the restore from seed function. That wallet also has the supposed erroneous math/history. Could this be related to Changelly? I don't think it is, but perhaps that's the issue here.

Any ideas? Thank you for your time on this, it is much appreciated.

Edit: Ah, yes - also: I used a block explorer and it appears that, indeed, only one transaction went through.

Edit2: Would it be wise to delete all the *.dat files in the /Bitcoin subdirectory to insure deletion of the associated files? I'm not seeing any electrum.dat files in the /Electrum file. For what it's worth, I have a few different wallets installed, at the moment.

Correct. To prevent wallet loss, Electrum does NOT remove wallet files when you uninstall it.

That's a good start... hopefully this means that there are not 2 other transactions sitting pending.

Electrum does NOT use any files from Bitcoin Core or other Bitcoin wallet applications. It shouldn't matter what you have in your /Bitcoin direcotry. As for the /Electrum directory, current versions of Electrum generate wallets that have NO file extension by default... ie, they are just called "default_wallet" or "the name I entered"... NOT "electrum.dat" or "default_wallet.dat" or "the name I entered.dat"

I would just try shutting down Electrum, deleting the "blockchain_headers" file ONLY from the /Electrum directory and then restarting Electrum... and restoring your seed to a new wallet. See if that helps.

If that doesn't help, then we're going to need to see transaction IDs, addresses and possibly some screenshots to try and figure out what is happening.

I figured out what the "problem" was/is.  Tongue

It was the fee associated with the tx. It's been a while since I've sent bitcoin - it didn't even occur to me that the fee would be so much, I guess. Pretty crazy how expensive the fees are now, fwiw, in my opinion. Makes me not want to use it anymore, actually - or advocate for it. Anyway, I'm glad it's not an issue with Electrum! I had been thinking about it for a while and couldn't understand what the heck. Thank you, again, for your time and help on it, though, either way.
