WAX was created to serve the existing virtual item ecosystem, which is currently worth $50 billion annually, and growing. Wax tokens can be staked to enable a person or entity to serve as a 'transfer agent' in this ecosystem. Transfer agents receive a portion of each virtual item transaction that they facilitate. Transfer agents ensure that trades are performed successfully by staking a certain amount of tokens, based on the dollar volume of the transactions they facilitate. The white paper at WAXtoken.com goes into much detail about how WAX tokens are used in the virtual item trading market - and how those token owners get rewarded for the role they play.
