Hello,

can anyone explain me what has actually happen with  BitMarket.eu in the year 2013 ?
I just remembered I have bought one Bitcoin there (just for the test) and have forgotten about it ..
Until today, when I have stumbled upon the email from admin@bitmarket.eu (see bellow) ..
My English is not good enough: and I am not sure what has really happen.  However, what I can notice is that I cannot
login and withdraw my Bitcoin from there .. Is there still any chance  I can do it ?

Thanks for help,

Daniel

Dear BitMarket.eu user,

As you might have heard already earlier in 2012 bitmarket.eu made a fatal mistake by keeping a majority of offline user`s funds on Bitcoinica. It was at that time not expected that the site could just disappear - taking all the money with it. The situation is even worse, as the funds were shorted when it happened (converted to USD and sold) - and after Bitcoinica disappeared BTC price rose by about 400% until now.

Indeed you can question the legibility of this actions and we totally understand also, that our deep apologies do not compensate for the losses you are experiencing now resulting from these past events, but as a final result it is not possible for bitmarket.eu to process any withdrawals of bitcoins that were in your account before 21.12.2012.

The total amount of lost or frozen bitcoins is 18749.78810193 BTC.

Bitmarket.eu takes full responsibility for the losses and would like to undertake all means possible to get back the lost bitcoins, but we would require your cooperation to do so. The “official” way forward would be to go on default, the website would be closed and all assets would be liquidated and after the formal liquidation process, depending on the actual value of all remaining assets, you could expect an actual payout of maybe 6-9%, also depending on the actual amount of Bitcoinica reimbursements which are currently estimated as 30,000 USD vs. the total of 360,000 USD debts from lost coins.

On the other hand we want to propose a better alternative to the official proceeding. After negotiations a group of investors is now willing to reopen the site and continue bitcoin the trading with new functions and improved concepts under a new and independent ownership. Their invested sum would be immediately used to reimburse equal shares of all bitcoins on hold. In addition to this one-time payment the new investors guarantee for lifetime that the newly opened site will pay out on a monthly basis 50% of all net profits generated with the new site to old bitmarket.eu users in equal shares until all debts are paid out in full. We would issue regular updates about current situation and reimbursement plans.

However, this way forward is only possible with your explicit consent, but bitmarket.eu would undertake all measures necessary to make this happen and we can assure that it would be a better option than the “official” liquidation process for all sides. We prepared a questionaire for you to fill on the site. You will receive an option to fill it as soon as you log in to your BitMarket.eu account. Please read it this carefully and choose appropriate option and reply on the question until 15. February 2013, 22:00 CET.

Best regards,
Bitmarket.eu team.

If the site has been gone for years, there is very little chance of recovering funds held on an exchange. If you moved it to a private wallet then you would still have it. If they were legitimate and the liquidation process has been wound up, it is impossible for you to recover it from whoever the company owners were.

That is why I keep mine in a hardware wallet. Worth the $70 for piece of mind.
