I already have a computer that previously crashed and now is as new as it was when I took it out the box... I wish to mine on it. In addition I have 3 laptops I obtained in 2008 and they're almost useless! Each one is approximately 2.2 Ghz because I updated the processor 3 months ago.

So, do I have to dedicate my miner to these computers? Do i have to? The desktop is 1.9 Ghz. I know the processor matters, but does the graphics card matter? I got my computer back in like 2010 and I'm using a cheap 1280 by 720 monitor that cost like 50 bucks. I also don't want to update the graphics cards at all.

Will my computers get hot? I don't want to have my uncle and aunt pay for damage I will do on their walls and floor... or desk.

Will I have an advantage if I create a pool? Will it work if I have a private mining pool?

I know I'm asking a lot questions, but I got an inspiration when I was looking through random stuff on youtube... I want to pay for my college tuition. My aunt and uncle obviously have the money but I want them to have the best retirement in the world Tongue

First welcome to the newbie section of the board Grin
Sorry for you but with a typical computer you CAN'T mine bitcoin  Cry
Now the difficulty for mining bitcoin is so high than you have to get an ASIC board and it costs you 10000 dollars if you find someone who want to sell it to you ...
Now you can't use your graphic card for mining bitcoin (SHA 256) but you can if you choose the popular Litecoin instead (Scrypt)
You need a good graphic card (preference : ATI/AMD not NVIDIA !) For mining get the best quality/price ATI 7970 (+/- $300)
With this you can get a 800 Kh mining speed

Advices :
Use your old computer (2010) but don't use your laptops ( only graphic card is important not the CPU !)
Buy an ATI graphic card 7970 ( +/- $300) https://litecoin.info/Mining_hardware_comparison
Join a pool (don't mine solo difficult is too high !)
Use Cgminer (the best and versatile app for mining) 3.7.2 (version after it's only for ASIC)

With this hardware you can expect mining for $10 dollars per day (I don't count electricity cost) per day (caution it decrease all the time !) http://dustcoin.com/

Find a tutorial on the net for setting  all that ATI 7970 , cgminer (install and fine tuning) ,  drivers ATI / Catalyst
Don't worry for the warmth ( software can check and interrupt mining if it gets hot !)

Good luck !
