Hi All, long time lurker, first time poster. I am taking the plunge into this new obsession of mine and I was looking for your advise and expertise. I have about $1000 or a little more to fund my initial GPU setup and I am trying to decide how to spend it. I have not decided on what to mine yet but I know that the Vega 56 are great right now. The problem with that is I can only get 2 with current prices. I saw that the 570 4 GB are a good option but I am worried that the 4GB memory size might be obsolete at some point soon.

Anyhow below are my options:

Nvidia 1070  x        2
Nvidia 1070ti  x      2
Nvidia 1080ti    x    1
Vega 56         x      2
RX 580 4GB     x     4
Nvidia 1060 6gb  x  4
RX 580 8 GB      x   4
RX 570 4GB       x   5

Thank you guys for your advice and reasoning. Right now I am leaning toward the 4 x 580's and am also wondering if it is fine to mix and match the different versions MSI, ASUS, etc. since we can only buy 1 or 2 of each.

I'm considering too. My budget is a little bit more, so 1st option is 2 rigs RX580 for ETH & XMR and the second is 1 rig GTX 1070Ti for more mining options. The 1st choice looks like better for me.

Go for 580 or 570 nvidia needs a bit more budget and mine enough to geting another one , because vega right now is quite expensive for the 2kh/s it gives for cryptonight and your gpu should be able to adapt to other coins and algos quickly.

that's better but i say if you have enough go for 2 1070 rigs rather than 1070ti unless you can get them cheap right now.

The VEGAs are the most profitable GPU right now. Especially if you consider hash rate - power efficiency. 1900 H/s on cryptonight on only 130-150watts?
Thats why it is currently sold out everywhere. One thing about it is that you have to do some tweaking and registry edits. So it might not be for everyone too.

yes, the vegas are good, the only problem the prices for them has gone up too much
two weeks back they were @ $400-420 and now they are @ $550
crazy

Its a bit headache and challenging for newbies, but it will definitely pay the price when you have it worked, consider also the long terms. price surely started going unjust right now.

Thank you guys for your advice and reasoning. Right now I am leaning toward the 4 x 580's and am also wondering if it is fine to mix and match the different versions MSI, ASUS, etc. since we can only buy 1 or 2 of each.
You should also count in your budget PSU, Motherboard, processor, PCI raisers, RAM, SSD, and only that will consume half of your budget Smiley

The best ROI now you can make with Vega 56 on cryptonight if you can manage to buy them @ $450
It makes about $5 per card @ 150W, but the prices has gone very high now...
So hard to tell which one is the best option now.

Is the $1000-$1100 the total for the whole rig or is that only the budget for the GPUs?

If that is the total for the whole rig the consider this:

- At least $300 for the CPU, Mobo, Ram, Storage and PSU. Considering the Black Friday sale lets say that you will get your PSU for around $80 to $100 US for a 650 to 850 watts.
- Then you will have $700-$800 for your GPUs. Right now an RX 580 will be for around $265 US in newegg so you can get 3 RX 580 for $795 US.For an RX Vega 56 that would be $470 US so you could only get one.
- For a GTX 1060 6gb that would be for around $270 US at newegg so that would be $810 US for 3 cards.
- For GTX 1070 that would be $400 US at newegg so you can get at least two cards.
- Also consider the type of cryptocurrency that you will mine because there are cards that will benefit from a specific type of tokens/coins that you will mine.

Personally go for a GTX 1060 or RX 580 if you can still get is cheap because it will get sold out considering the sale and also consider the type of token/coin that you will mine.

Thanks All, the 1k was for GPU only. So far I have a 1300W Supernova, Asrock H110 btac pro, 8mb ram, i3 3.9cpu, and electricity cost is about .085 . I bought the higher spec system so I can scale easily and the prices listed are about what I can get the GPU  at.

What Vega gpu buy?

Any Vega GPU that you can get your hands on and cost economical rather than paying premium prices for them.

How funny it is, that every day more and more people are "into" mining, when the price of the coin goes up..
When there will be red blood on the streets everybody would love to sell their equipment for 30% of the money they put into Smiley

RX 570 x 5 seems like the best solution so far.
It will do around 140-150 MH/s and 3500-4000 H/s on Cryptonight which is very good ATM.
With Dual mining, you can squeeze more profits.
