If so what kind of applications? web apps, local desktop app? both?  (I'm thinking about if anyone still uses or needs things like mmcfe, SimpleCoin, mining Farm, etc)

Surprising there is no response considering the number of ppl asking for help/software to start pools lately
I generally point them toward simplecoin Smiley

The answer to your question is yes, so I'll rattle off a few ideas.  First off, an Android widget that can track miner speed, pool info, etc would be really nice.  I'm always looking at the MtGox ticker on my phone, it would be nice to see my speed/shares there next to it.  Next, I think that MobileMiner/Litecoin Miner for iPhone and Android is awesome and would like to see a better GUI for it.  Phone mining is not a viable mining option, but I think it is a fantastic tool for introducing people to cryptocurrencies.  Additionally, I think that if a GUI miner/wallet app was developed (even for some mining some new mobile crypto) it could be largely successful.  From what I've noticed, a lot of people want to get right into mining as soon as they realize the legitimacy of Bitcoin.  In this stage, new miners are impulsive and want to jump right in.  The barriers of capital and knowledge are high for mining though, so many potential bitcoiners get turned away.  I'm just thinking how every kid has a smartphone these days; it seems like some bullshit PokemonCoin miner for 99 cents could catch like wildfire right now...  Anyway,  that's all I got for now.

Good input so far mates, Please refer to anyone you can to this thread. I owe the community a "mining" app of around $300 in value(From a private donation that happened about two years ago, they came back to collect at the appropriate time. Now is that time.). They told me the details are up to me and I am a programmer not a mind reader so I ask the community what kind of mining apps we need.. So we might as well make this thing work, I really like the idea of an android widget that's even feasible for my knowledge as well. Especially if it connected your your miners back at home in some safe manner along with showing the price from Mtgox. Great input. I would love to hear more about this an from anyone else on other ideas as well.

Also I think if I had to could make an easy to use mining GUI app that involves Qrcodes and/or copy paste strings for connecting to servers/accounts. So I might go down that route although the android widget wouldn't take a whole year to finish so I have to think about these things. I still have paid work to do, but I do owe the community "something" so time is slightly an issue for what i decide to produce.
