Hi
I saved my JSON from myetherwallet.
I struggle with the passwd (and I don t have my private key). I think I will find it but I need many tries.
I might be able to recover the passwd if I can do 100 or 1000 tries. But it s very not convenient on myetherwallet as there is a 10sec delay or so.
Any (easy) way I can try many password, ideally from a list I can make before?
I can use windows or linux.

Thank you for your help

With this issue i think that you can try the  pyethrecover. it will brute force your JSON file for all possible password you put in the password.txt

https://ethereum.stackexchange.com/questions/97/how-can-i-recover-or-reset-a-lost-wallet-password

https://ethereum.stackexchange.com/questions/6845/how-to-apply-pyethrecover-py-on-v3-json-transfor-v3-json-to-v1

However you will need have a basic understanding of python programming.

And the next time save your Private Keys for all of your wallets.

there some bruteforce program who can do that you just need to put all possible password at one txt file. but still take much time, anyway if sometimes you create ethreum wallet the first thing you need to backup is the private key nothing else

I have a question very much related to this...

So, I printed a paper wallet for ETH from MEW..

I remember my password very well.

Do I NEED the JSON file? It is my understanding that since the printed paper wallet has the private key, and I remember my password.. then I would not Need the JSON file. Huh

Can someone here enlighten me?

Thank you guys!

Yes you are correct. JSON File is used if you dont want to type or copy paste your long private keys.

As long as you have your private key and its password its all the same.

Private key is enough to access your wallet in myetherwallet or you can simply import all your ETH from that address to exodus wallet using move funds option they have.

JSON file is encrypted wallet file while private key is plain non encrypted so you don't need password to access your wallet if you have private key.

if you lose your private keys you lose your coins, after creating any wallet you may want to back up the private keys to prevent this to happen,
