Hello I have been lurking on the forums for a couple months now finally decided to sign up. Interested in Alternative coins. Hope this wasn't too much of a pointless thread. Just wanted to say hi to everyone in the community. If you have any tips or advice please feel free to tell me.Hope these restrictions will go away soon.

Thanks Smiley

I just joined this afternoon.  Would also have gone to the London event on Wednesday, but friends are coming round.

I find the concept very elegant and very exciting but also problematic - in particular:
(1) the guaranteed limited volume of BTC seems to create a constant threat of liquidity crises with BTC holders hoarding it as an appreciating store of value.  The danger is that constant liquidity crises -> lower acceptance of BTC -> collapse in value.
(2) I don't see how you can scale to accommodate a serious volume of micropayments.  This seems like a central challenge, if Bitcoin is to fulfil its potential as the medium for a  decentralised post-capitalist economy.

Any tips on where to look around in these groups would be appreciated.

I think that the deflationary aspect and market volatility of Bitcoin is a real issue. Although Bitcoin has alot of practical issues it has solved most of the technical issues with virtual currencies and lays the foundations for something that can really have a major impact.
