Anyone still buying 7990s for alt coin mining?  I'm considering grabbing a few given the current prices of them on newegg.   Worst case I can resell these things locally as they are twice the cost where I live.   But, I'd like to use them for scrypt.

cheers.

To be honest 7950s are a lot better value for money if you have 2 pcie slots than 1 7990 and they work out cheaper per kh Smiley

I currently use the 7950s and some older 5xxx series cards.   So I agree on the value for money.   Just seeing though they are sitting at 700 USD now it is tempting.   They are selling here for double that so perhaps I'd bring in 4, sell 2 and keep 2 lowering my cost.   Or something like that.   Maybe I will stick with more 7950s.

I am not sure where you are in the world but I was talking to someone in the US that was buying 7950 at $200

Dam, have they dropped that much.   I'm in Asia.   I won't find that price for a 7950 here.   Last time I bought one I paid in the range of 400.

New ones are around $215 right now. I can't believe how much the price dropped in 5 months.

7990 is the best now  Grin
easy to config, need small space, highest p/w and very effective when you're solo mining

doh, was just bending back towards the 7950s and you had to go and say that.   Mind you, another concern is footprint.   I don't want to go over 2 rigs.  mmmmm

cheapest vapor-x 7950 I can get is $240, but cheapest 7990 is still above $650. If I have to choose, I will go 7950.

I am just holding my horse to see the 9xxx price till Oct. Anyone remember 7970 price when it just got released?

Thanks, I bet 9970 will be below 700 in one month after release with marginal improvement compared to 7990.

The most important thing is reduced power consumption with 20nm.

They will still be 28nm, and a single GPU 9970 will in all likely hood not be faster than the dual GPU 7990.

agree !
we have to wait to the next year to see 20nm card
