A good way to start with ASICs is the USB block erupters. They are small, and simple to get started with, and above all: they are available to actually get. You can find several group buys here on the forum for them. Other alternatives are the Butterfly Labs products, or KnC Miners, but they are expensive and you won't get your machines for another 2-3 months.
