First mining build - Opinions?

Hi,

I'm about to purchase the following parts for my first mining build:

• Gigabyte GA-H110-D3A
• Intel Celeron G3900
• Crucial CT4G4DFS8213
• 2x Corsair RM850x
• 6x GV-RX580GAMING-8GD
• 6x PCI-E Riser V006C USB 6pins
• Dual-PSU Cable
• (existing 60GB SSD, monitor, mouse and keyboard)
  

Software:

• Win 10 pro (or Enterprise LTSB if I can get hold of that)
• AMD mining driver

This will add up to 2500~2600 euro here in western Europe.

I'm thinking about mining ethereum using Claymore, or starting with NiceHash.

What do you guys think about this setup?
Good hardware choice?
What about the software?

Is vBIOS editing necessary? These are RX580 8GB cards running their memory on 8GHz stock. I'll try to undervolt/underclock the GPUs while trying to overclock the memory with Afterburner. Will that be sufficient?

hardware choice seems pretty good
with the availability of good amount of power
you can try going with seven gpus
use m2 to pcie adapter and you can get seven gpus working with no issue

Your hardware selections all are good.
With RX580 (Most of my GPUs are RX580 as well) I will go with Claymore to mine ETH, you could consider Claymore dual mine ETH+LBC.

Found a seller for the V008C risers as well, they seem to be better compared to V006C.

Any ideas of what coin / miner should be most profitable on these cards?

I would recommend a 7+ gpu board for better density.  Good to see new miners still getting into the game!

Yes, as far as I know, riser V008C consumes less 5W than V006C.
And one thing, you should notice is mainboard Gigabyte GA-H110-D3A it may change the BOOT section when you update OS.
So if you plan to use window10, you should take a look on BOOT setting in bios otherwise your rig will not startup. As I remember, just choose option name like sth relates to Window.

Setup is good.

MB you can download special BIOS for mining from GB website.

Cards - 580/8GB would give afaik same hashrate as 570/4gb and cost significantly more.
Also do your research on overclocking/undervolting - people just told me they got issues with same cards.

850W PSU is not required, but more power is always better.
Stable rigs 8 GPU run on 850Wx2.

Regarding W10/Linux. I am looking for solid opinions too.
As for W10 u can use mining drivers, overclock etc. OS is overloaded.
Linux is simple, CLI and easy to manage. However, I didnt find any solid confirmation regarding drivers and undervolting.
I m just curious which system would run better - voltage and hash.

I would not take 8GB of PX580 either, I think 4GB looks more optimal in terms of price / hash ratio.

Good list but I would change from rx 580's to gtx 1060's being your first rig and cards are a bitch to get working. Plus there cost is way out there right now.   The corsair Psu's are overpriced crap. U can get two seasonic 850watt for 30 bucks list.  Seasonic builds 80% of the Psu's on the market.  Always get the largest memory card u can. It will last longer with the file size getting bigger.

Thanks or the input, I will update the UEFI/BIOS first and take a look at the settings. I'll start with 1 GPU and add the others once this single GPU is working.

I went for RX580 8GB because price difference is not so big (€60 each compared to RX570 4GB), and to be more future proof (i.e. Etherium DAG size). Might not be the best investment (perf/money) for large scale deployments, I agree. I figured this is -for me- the safest bet for now.

While I agree, I didn't want to take the risk of not being able to mine some coins because of VRAM limits in the near future.

I have confidence in getting the 6 RX580 cards working. nVidia mining seems a bit newer, and not for all coins. Feels like I have less confidence in it... But they are a bit cheaper, yes.

I woudn't say Corsair PSU's are crap, but I found 850W Seasonic PSU's for €30 less than I paid for the Corsair PSU's (€105 vs €135).

Hi, I have a i3 2100 cpu. few months back had got gtx 1050ti 4gb. 
Planing to upgrade the cpu to Intel Core i5 7400. Is it any good? or do i need to change anything else.
Please advise.
