Hello,
First of all thanks for reading this post as like many people here I am trying to get started with crypto currency mining. Ideally my main initial goal is just to learn and not make too much of an up-front investment besides a couple good GPUs.
So I am trying to use hardware I already have. I currently have a Dell Power Edge R805 that I acquired for free and I am trying to figure out if I can use this older hardware server to run ideally two GPUs.
This server has DD18K motherboard, 8 core 2.4GHz AMD processor, 64G RAM, and the specs say it has 4 PCIe - 2 SLOT Full Length 8x, 1 Half Length 8x, 1 Half Length 4X. The PCIe stuff confuses me as the specs appear to be based of 2 riser/extender cards.
I am currently browsing some higher end GPUs such as Radeon 5X 580 GPUs and I feel like I am just going around in circles and I am nervous to just start buying stuff as I have limited knowledge of hardware/crypto mining in general.
Some of my biggest concerns are I am not sure if the GPU PCIe 3.0x16 interface will even be compatible with the server PCIe connectors, power consumption/ power connectors, etc.
Like I said I feel like I just need some help/advise if I can just use the Dell Power Edge R805 with two higher GPUs? Thanks again for your time.
Joe
