The Forum needs an upgrade. It's getting old

I'm pretty sure we could upgrade it to something more feature rich...
The site worked in a pinch but, wow, this has gone on for long enough.

The idea of creating completely new forum software was backwards. It has been in development for several years, cost several million USD so far and is still not that close to completion. Plus, there are some very drastic changes and downsides to it (JS anyone?).

Most of the forum history is garbage from 3rd world spammers anyways.

Think of Theymos taking the latest version of SMF and spending $1.5M to modify that... it would have been the perfect software.

I agree. The latest SMF isn't that bad, and with the amount of money that has been invested in the *new forum software* it could have been extensively customized and secured.

I agree. The latest SMF isn't that bad, and with the amount of money that has been invested in the *new forum software* it could have been extensively customized and secured.

Disagree. A lot of people can code things, but most of them can't secure it to a good degree. Bitcointalk is probably being probed every single day in every single possible way.

agreed, it's tough... it takes an expert to find all the bugs. Hal Finney was a great programmer, he taught me to look deep to be more stringent; Sometimes it takes a great teacher with a good heart to instill the depth required to write great code. Good competition like that from Dan Kaminsky, who vetted the code extensively and found several little comments for him to find by Satoshi. Needs a great community willing to work together, to point out our short comings and to help us rise farther than we ever had... we truly are standing on the shoulders of giants.
