I ordered another.. but if i could snap that extra piece off could i use it while i wait? It is also missing a cap :/

If you know it's broken, don't use it.  Just wait on the replacement.  It's also a good idea to buy one or two more for spares.

I know how you feel.  I purchased all the parts for a new 6 card rig, received all the parts today, and realized I forgot to order a power cable to connect to my PDU.  So, I'll wait another few days.  :/
