https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=25804.0You use your computers processing power to generate the prefix. The more characters you want to be unique will take more time. As long as you have the processing power then you should be able to get a 4/5 character prefix. I would suggest to only do this yourself and not hire anyone else to do it for you because of the issue with private keys and trusting them with it.
Thank you very much. I will definately do it myself.
I have seen several btc addresses with peoples names. How do they generate them?
the other problem you'll have is that you cant have certain characters in an address. The uppercase letter "O", uppercase letter "I", lowercase letter "l", and the number "0" are never used to prevent visual ambiguity.
That makes total sense as those characters can easily be mistaken.
Won't that make it a little too unanonymous though? Yeah you'll have yours more personalized and even easier to remember so you won't have to copy it everytime but i think randomness is what makes btc addresses more secure.
It does however I dont see the risk being any higher than having an ordinary address, because as soon as anyone knows your public address, they will be able to trace your transactions.
