Hi everyone I'm new to the forum and looking for some guidance on altcoin mining. I would prefer to start small and make it scalable maybe start out with 6-8 Gpu's.

As far as what coin i want to mine and joining a pool goes I'm not really sure. And I hear of scams going on in some pools or is that not true?

Now I do understand these things take a lot of power so I would like to build more towards efficiency, even if there are higher upfront cost.
My cost is 7 cent per kwh with taxes and fees in my area.

From doing some quick Googling it seems the GTX 1660 TI is the most efficient with a little tuning or is there something else in the near future that maybe better?

Also recommendations on motherboard, CPU, Ram and power supply.

Would also like to see pics of your GPU rigs, thanks everyone and have a great day!

gtx 1660ti is kind of the best gpu right now for mining if you want to get started with gpu mining
anyway stick with the most popular pools like nanopool, etherminer, etc
take any budget cpu like g4400 or similar
a good 6 pcie slot mob with extra m2 slots for more expandability
4gb ram
60gb ssd
and 80+ gold psu with enough wattage according to the power requirement should be fine

Depends realy on what coin ( coins ) you want to mine !
For some coins AMD cards better and for other Coins Nvidia better .
The 1080 TI is also an nice GPU for mining , just for saying maybe take a look at this too.

To calculate what card is better and most efficient use "whattomine" service.

What about pools - it is not nescessary to hold your funds on pool, just set payment afte each hour.

Thanks for the replies.

Running 8 1660 ti's looking like $2.01 per day with rvn.
What do you guys think about the onda b250 8 gpu MB? I think I rather have a riserless MB.
Or are there problems with heat?

$ 2 with 8 video cards? it is generally unprofitable, I think that it is easier for you to sell them and it is better to buy shares of Apple or Microsoft profit will be more effective!

Maybe I calculated wrong?

No actually the 1660 ti is the most profitable than all the other cards according to what to Mine.
Are there other cards that do better than $2 per day x8 cards with ravencoin?

Maybe I calculated wrong?
-snip-
If you change the default "$0.1 per kWh" to your area's electricity cost, which is $0.07?
It'll reach $2.8 a day.

That depends on the coin/algorithm.
Using the same calculator, change the GPUs into 8 1080ti~s, the result for Ravencoin will be doubled.
(BTW, do not rely too much on whattomine's computation, it'll just give you an overview)

Okay so I plugged several different online calculators and they're all different rates which one is the most accurate uptodate?

Well today it looks like ravencoin would not even be worth mining, you would be losing money. I was okay with the $2 per day (x8 cards) profit but now showing $-0.19 per day.

How do you normally mine each day? skip around each day to the coins that are profitable?

Your own calculation Smiley
Probably better if you can survey 1660ti users for their usual daily/weekly payout, Total power consumption.
Check the current price of the Coin, then do the math. (Computation based from the hashrate would be a pain because of pool "luck" variable)

Are you sure that you've clicked the GPU model and it turned green? The "cost" to $0.07 (7c)?
Because I just visited using the same settings and the result was the same as yesterday.

Hmm, profitability usually doesn't change dramatically in one night; but if it falls below my minimum threshold, I'll shift to the better one.
(I don't have much of an alternative though).
AFAIK, most big farms do this automatically via paid software.

I think you should get some cheap RX 470 4GB (RX 570 4GB) Gpus from Craiglists/eBay second hand and see if mining is for you. You can get the 1660 Ti but keep in mind that you need to most likely buy that GPU new and its pricey. You can get a cheap RX 470 for like $75 used.

You make like 0.25 per day per GPU based on your power costs. They aren't much because mining right now is not as profitable as it was during 2017 FOMO days. There is just too many miners out there and too much competition. Its generally this way in business.

So get a few of these GPUs and run the rig for a month or so and see if mining is for you. If it is then maybe get the 1660 Ti's and build more rigs.

A better option to take since this is just a start up. Trying to set-up and do observe using up some second hand cards and 470 for $75 wont really hurt that much.

Upgrading to brand new ones after you familiarize everything.Observe and calculate profitability and utilize well your capital rather than on rushing up to 1660 ti's.

Ugh! I can't get the what to Mine calculator to work right, when I try to put in the card I want it resets it back to default after I hit calculate.  And the 3 480 card in the red box how do you get rid of those it always sets back to 3?

Remove all cards that are selected at first, make sure everything is set to 0 in the algorithms and then you choose the card you want to and the number of cards,it will show you the result.

You click the red box again and it will let you manually play with the entries. Basically you put in how many of a specific GPU you own, so if you got 1 1660Ti then you put a 1 to the left of it and click the "1660 Ti" box and it will appear green. Why its green instead of red is because Red is AMD and Green are Nvidia GPUs. Then all the hashrates and profits and different coins will show up under. Also put in your power costs, if you don't know then put in like 0.10$ which is the household average in alot of places.

So for the 1660 Ti with 10 cent power you will make about 0.23$ a day mining Ethereum. With a RX 470 4GB you will make about $0.18 a day but keep in mind that the used RX 470 is much much cheaper than the 1660 Ti even though it uses more power.
