I am designated as head of our unit few months ago, and i dont know how to become a good leader since it was my first time to be a boss. All im doing is do the best within my capacities and doing my work based on the scope of my designation..Also im too young from my subordinates and most of them used to undermine me because of my age. They usually dont follow my instructions and i know they think im not the right one to be on that position because im not smart enough and also not a graduate from prestigous university here in our country.

Work with skills, and not with your emotions. Show them that they can easily undermine you if they can do better. Make a statement that the reason why you are seated in that position is because you can work more effective. In the corporate field, pleasing everyone is a myth. Earn their respect by being professional.

From my experience I can give you the advice to be always very open and honest. Most people respect this and will accept you for that. If you're not smarter than your subordinates that's not your fault, be transparent about it. I'm pretty sure you have other skills and they're the reason why you have this position now.

Thanks so much from your advices!
One last thing why its hard for me is because 3 of them were my bosses before, and now everything turned upside down.. they were now a faculty member and im the boss.

You have been made the leader irrespective of your age or experience. You probably might have a quality that is lacking in the others. As a leader, you have to be flexible but firm.Let them know that you respect them as colleagues in the profession but you wouldnt hesitate to apply the rules where it is needed. As a leader, you have to "lead" them, but dont try to "control" them. Try to motivate them to put in more effort, but make sure you are not selective in this path. Be opened to news ideas and suggestions from them and let them feel you are all working as a team but not as individuals. let everyone feel like a leader and let them feel their contributions are equally important.
