In order to become a happy owner of the NEO crypto you need to install Neon Wallet from the official NEO website.
If you are an advanced user then to increase security you can download a wallet on Linux for which you pre-install the virtual machine.
After downloading and installing the program start the wallet and select the "Create a new wallet" tab!

You can use the official neo wallet from their site neo.org. For the place to buy neo itself, you can buy it on binance or bittrex as the price will be the same for crypto everywhere, maybe a few cent difference. I think you can also keep your neo in ledger but i read some people has problem with it.

If you want to invest in NEO, you can buy NEO coins at Binance or at other exchange. But only invest with money that you are ready to lose.
Otherwise you would trade with risk capital and that would be a huge mistake! Risk capital is capital that you must never lose and you should actually spend on bills.
If you want to secure your coins, you should take the official wallet (desktop wallet). Do not leave your coins at the exchanges.

You can buy Neo on binance or Bittrex and if you want to keep it safe or hold it long term then go to their website https://neo.org/ then create a wallet there be sure to store your private key safe so you could access all of that good luck!

You can download Neon wallet for free and be sure to check first before downloading it, there are Phishing site that are willing to steal your wallet. You can buy Neo at Binance and Bittrex, check coinmarketcap.com most of the market are listed there.

Allow me to answer this question as I have bought NEO coins from multiple places. Mentioning the 2 sites where you can buy NEO coins from.

1.BITTREX - Go to Bittrex, The Next Generation Digital Currency Exchange and sign up. Get your BTC or ETH address. Transfer BTC or ETH to Bittrex and send your exchange it with NEO.

If you are buying NEO from BITTREX, I strongly recommend you to shift your coins to NEO wallet to get free GAS.

2. BINANCE - Go to BINANCE.COM and sign up with them. They are a Chinese exchange. So, choose the English version. I agree the website UI sucks but they are good. In general, the price of NEO in each exchange is about the same.
So you buy NEO can be in any exchange, light NEO has a full purse, wallet and also mobile wallet, in general I would recommend that you use full purse, because it is safe.
