bitcoin/litecoin minner

I am trying to start a minner. I have some programing skills. there is more to read on this than I have time for. due to world events I believe litecoin as well as the other coins minus bc. has profit to be made. can anyone tell me how to get my coinotron account to work with the miner. I have a miner on the desktop. but it wonk start. please help.
