Although I am a newbie on this forum, I have been watching Cryptos (now AltCoins to be more PC) for over 5 years (sadly without enough fiat committed to it!). Working in the investment world, I fear that governments will ultimately take the blockchain technology to design their own versions of digital currencies, defeating the decentralised, anonymous nature that all libertarian supporters have loved about Cryptos all these years.##

What do you think? Can BTC and other AltCoins remain independent and tradable without government involvement or will they eventually get hijacked by governments or even the IMF?

All thoughts very welcome..

Governments are already trying to create their own altcoins. But let me assure you, they will never overtake independent cryptos. This is due to the fact that all of them will be extremely centralized, meaning users will lose a significant amount of privacy and many will simply not trust the same guys that took away our net neutrality.
