I've been playing around with the Raspberry Pi for several months and have been looking into other projects.  I've always been interested in Bitcoin mining, but never have the $ to invest high end video cards.  I'm now looking into building a small farm of 5-15 USB ASCIMINERS, as it seem in a year I will likely pay for hardware and enjoy the project.

My real question is, am I better off taking advantages of group buys that us BCs or pay USD for instock units.  It seems those available in marketplace for group buys are BC only.

Hobby first, profit second

I think ASIC MINERS are really good for hobbyist and experience with ASICs. Making a small but sizable farm of ASIC MINERS would look sick with blinking LEDs. You try 3rd party BFL ASIC builds https://forums.butterflylabs.com/hardware-discussion/3305-%5Bgroup-buy%5D-chip-group-buy-board-design.html
