Today in the Union Budget 2018 of India, finance minister Arun Jaitley have stated the government policy on bitcoin and cryptocurrency. Now the statement of the finance minister is being presented by different media in different way. He has said bitcoin is not a legal tender. And gov will try to regulate any kind of illegitimate use of cryptocurrency.
you can watch his declaration here- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFDUpzTr-_c (hear yourself and decide wisely.)

Re: Bitcoin was never a legal tender, and never will be in the near future. Government of India have not banned bitcoin. If Bitcoin were banned then the first step would have been the banning of the exchanging services.
