Hey Guys-

Just joined the forum today and have a question for all of you experts. Forgive me, as this question I am sure has been asked a few times but I could not find specifics searching the various topics.

My son wants to get into Mining and I have access to 6 EVGA 1060 6GB graphics cards which I have rigged into a Corsair 740 case. My question is, can he effectively mine to see a profit with a home PC? I am not worries about the electric bill at all so that piece is irrelevant to me. I just want to make sure that investment of time and energy is worth it.

Thoughts?

It may be able to mine altcoins but it wouldn't have the hash rate for turning a profit from Bitcoin. A lot of altcoins are going this way and a lot of them require specialized equipment called ASIC.

The difficulty for mining is really high, you might want to consider mining altcoins instead of Bitcoins so you can compete with less people.

Every beginner question to crypto currency is how to mine coins. Is not easy for you to make profit mining. Your graphic card is not sufficient to make any reasonable coins. Electricity cost and other cost will discourage you sooner or later.

In the world of mining is a huge expenditure in monthly expenditure is electricity, and in which investment is sought is profit, and I think you can benefit from mining even using home computer, in the long run you can benefit from the results. and an increase in the bitcoin or increment of the coin you mine.

First off, please do not call any of us experts. Ever. Most of us on here are pants-on-head retarded most of the time and the information we give to you should be taken as suggestions or opinions, never as facts or something that you will actually be able to use. There's a lot more research with a lot more information specifically related to your question available online (specifically Google) and with far better detail than a majority of the answers you'll be able to get on here.

But feel free to call me an expert :^)

Anyways, here's the deal with mining right now.

Mining Bitcoin, with anything that you'd be able to fit into a home PC, really isn't worth it. You're also likely going to destroy your computer's components if you are not careful and maintain a regular cooling regime for it or have extensive airflow. It also reduces the lifespan for the card if you do high-intensity mining. Keep these things in mind.

Now for mining various altcoins, that may have some better rewards since fewer people are mining most of the time and there's a high chance you can earn a fair amount because of this, but at the same time the entire market is sliding and as such, this isn't guaranteed either. Most of the time it ain't too bad, though.

Now I need a bit more information to delve deeper into helping you along, what kind of things was your son (or you) planning to mine, and what was the general plan that was in mind? I'll do my best to assist you.

In terms of my GPU, is it worth it running (6) GTX 1060 6GB cards?

You can check it on https://whattomine.com/ for estimation. That will show different hash rates and daily cost, it isn't accurate but that's going to give you idea on what you are planning to mine with those GPUs.

You'll mine altcoins and this will be the best place to share thoughts about it, kindly move your topic here Mining (Altcoins).

Definitely not bitcoin mining obviously. You can easily mine Monero and Zcash I think, ETH is also possible but the profitability has went down so maybe avoid that. I would recommend Monero, if you don't care about electricity bill then you should profit about $100-150 per month theoretically.
