Hi, I have an Antminer S9 and due to the extreme noise it makes, I put it inside a box with two pipes for each fan. Each pipe has acoustic fiber for noise reduction, however the S9 gets very hot (up to 113 ºC) and the red light next to the ethernet port starts blinking and it stops hashing.

So, I was wondering if I apply cold air (I'm planning to build a cooler) the fans would run slower (and less noisy) ?

Thanks

You are doing  a lot wrong.  people say be polite  and don't write nasty things so I put my honest thought that first came to me when I read your post.

Note they are in code  so as to try to be gentle to you  but still show how strongly I feel about what you did.

Code:
what are you a fucking moron!

113c temps  jesus fucking christ  you are crazy!

Then what is your solution that covers both, noise isolation and fresh temperature?

Your original idea of giving them colder input air is the way to go (or a colder room in general) - as temps like that are most definitely dangerous.  It also could be your noise "solution" is causing less air flow, which would not help cool it.

good I am glad you did not feel too angry.

so lets go slow  to a fix.

1 unit  in the box   how big is the box  and how big are the tubes you use?

also how long are the tubes?

big tube diamater help  10 inch  not six inch.
shorter tubes help
how warm is the room?

70f  = good
80f   = okay
90f   = not so good
100f = bad

next  the exhaust tube gets the air out of the room correct?

If you have a long exhaust tube  it will need a fan  to pull the air out.

It looks like your "pipes" are blocking a lot of airflow. What's the temperature in your room?

I've used these quite successfully: https://www.ebay.com/itm/283025744004 as well as makeshift silencer boxes but you need to have good airflow through the miner AND in/out of the room.

I just used the extra acoustic foam in the pipes (outside) because it looks better. And I have of course the foam inside each pipe.

Temperature in the room is okay. And in fact pipes are 6 inchs.

I'm planning to build this cooler:

The fan doesn't seem to be connected to the pipe. It has to be airtight, otherwise hot air will get into your intake.

Also - if you put that thick eggcrate foam inside your 6 inch pipe then what's the actual usable inside diameter? ~2"?

I experienced to make a silencer box, but it gives you the higher temperature, but if you can properly take your hot air out you can reduce the 113c temp.

The intake air must be cool so you must have a cooler device in your room when using a silencer box and exhaust air must be flowing properly so that the hot won't stay in your room.

Your temp is too high that is why your miner is always stopped every time you run it in a few minutes because above 80c it can lead the miner to temp protection and stop hashing.

So always keep your miner cooler so that it can run properly without any problem.

Want to add some more

Code:
Are you Fucking kidding me?
113C, Your machines are still okey but you and your house could be Fucked.

Now Lets go to the solution.
As of on my Experience when I was experimenting ASIC back in 14 I believe, I use to mine with my 3 miners in my Apartment (Not ashamed to tell that back in 14 i use to live in Apartment building) I had 180Sqft Living Room I placed my 3 Miners facing Out in the window and turning AC 24/7 on and all my AC vents closed on other room/ Bathroom and everywhere esle only 2 vents open in Living room so all the air could focus on Living room where i had my Miners, Later i thought of doing Duct, The same formula I am using in my Warehouse these days. I did Dryer Duct system in my Miners to intake fresh, and cold air from outside, which lowered my AC bills and little bit noise also.
That was my Apartment facts might be useful for you and together with that i will share you some info i am doing in my warehouse, I don't care about noise in my warehouse i am actually doing this for Heat Control but it still it helps a lot with noise and heat both.

Ebay Item I am using this on my Miners both side.
Amazon Item Using that on both side. One duct in the back of miner which will come all the way from my cold room (Might be you can use same way to your intake instead of cold room you can use either one vent of AC or directly from outside) and the front one goes to Heat room which is sealed and had 2 exhaust fan for air exhaust.

Overall Miners are in middle of my Cold Room and Heat Sealed Room so if anyone want to implement same formula in House, Apartment or in warehouse just remember to have enough airflow in miners both in Intake and Exhaust which could drop a lot heat and noise. Miners only need Cold Air and for that having AC or cooler is not enough, If you can manage to get all the heat air out from the room we don't even need AC running.

Thanks. One question, can I cut the Aluminum Foil Duct? or should I buy one for each side?

You can (and should) cut it to required length.
