It is simple, store your coins in offline wallets like a paper wallet and keep all your private keys safely then no one can hack your coins. But if you lose your private keys then you can't get back your coins.

I'm not sure how people are hacking these exchanges but as an individual always keep your PC free from viruses for that you need to install latest antivirus software to keep your PC safe. Don't provide your private key details to any site for any reason.

Well said ! Actually, they can only get through you private keys is when you were victimize by the hacker by using their program that contains keylogger and most of all is don't get fall by the pishing sites. You have to always double check the site whenever you are logging in using you private key or passwords.

Sure, exchanges can be hacked but only those who are not two steps ahead of the technology used and skills of the hackers. This is a never-ending chasing game and sadly there are times when exchanges can lose the game making many of the members cry in pain. We have seen this happened even with big exchanges which can hire and pay security experts to guard their portals. The safest thing to do is to have an offline wallet just don't lose the wallet and things will be alright. Sadly, cryptocurrency is encouraging many dishonest people to do their craft of victimizing others because the incentive is always there.

People can't hack your bitcoin when you keep it in a wallet the hacking can occur only you keep them in exchanges and hot wallets. So we need to keep our bitcoins in a wallet which provides private access then there is no chance for hacking.
