How to Hard Fork a Coin

Hey guys, unfortunately invested into a masternode coin where the developer when AFK. I know many others that got jipped and we knew the risk. However trying to rescue funds and run a legitimate project. I'm looking for a guide on how to hard fork a coin. Can anyone help give me some starting points. Articles and videos do wonders for my learning.
