ok folks - my situation is a standard breach one; wanted to reach out to you guys on this forum.

My MtGox account was breached and fraud occurred whereby my btc were sold, a transfer was done out of my MtGox account and now I am left with nothing.

What sort of recourse do I have with MtGox and an unauthorized transfer? A few more background facts - when I logged into my account on a particular day, say Tuesday, after I typed in my password I noticed that screen froze, then nothing showed up. I re-typed my password and checked my balances - all good. The next day I get the automated email from MtGox indicating that a sale and transfer took place. I checked online that day and all was gone. Obviously, this was a phising type scam.

So - is MtGox totally exempt from these types of transactions and responsibility? I have been dealing with Marcus on the support desk and he has been quite useless. I read through there terms and conditions and their fraud prevention is pretty basic.

Any help/guidance on retrieving my btc back?

Please clarify. If the BTC were sold then dollars would have been credited to your account. If so, how did the fraudster get them out?!!!  I have never heard of a theft of dollars from a MgGox account.

Hi All,

I am happy to report that I FINALLY received my funds!!

My saga started on JUNE 20th,2013 and I received  USD$10,000 on SEPTEMBER 3rd, 2013 - about 10 weeks. I had to re-request the wire as a MANUAL wire which cost me 5% of the value.

How is bitcoin going to grow when the market leader for conversion takes nearly 10 weeks and 5% in fees before you can get your money???

So, as many of you had suggested, yes, there were several other methods that I could convert. However THIS WAS A TEST!!  This was a test of the overall performance of MtGOX in a professional investor grade kind of way.

They have beyond failed.  There are other methods of investing in bitcoin. The Winklevoss twins have setup an ETF being traded in NYC. This is a good way for the investing public to speculate/day trade bitcoins. Bitstamp is another market that is liquid however there are some challenges there as well.

Unfortunately, I have to recommend to my clients to wait until there is a more professional infrastructure put in place in terms of exchanges before investing into BTC or just use the Winklevii ETF.

Thanks all!

-Z
