i originally started mining for fun and as a hobby. I always look for new things to get involved with and this seemed interesting. Making money on top of it is great even if its not at a ROI

Fun and nerd factor which are basically the same thing for me.  Also even a small amount of profit for said fun is nice.

Btc is only for fun and community but alt coins is mostly for profit.

I started GPU mining to find out how it works. But I stopped after few days, because it was not fun anymore and not much mined anyways

After a day - the scores:

Profit   - 5 (20.8%)
Fun   - 6 (25%)
Nerd factor   - 6 (25%)
Waste electric   - 1 (4.2%)
Keep the Bitcoin network secure   - 5 (20.8%)
Boredom   - 1 (4.2%)

Will be interesting too see how opinions change over time.

Like most others here, I too join mining primarily due to the profit factor, though I worry it won't end up being a profit But it sure is interesting and fun especially since I have the hardware to somewhat support it, plus its definitely a nerd bragging factor lol.
