It bitcoin was to fail, does it mean all alt coins would fail? would the whole of the crypto world fail?

Nowadays it would be pretty much like that yes. Bitcoin is the king of crypto actually. Even if some altcoins grew a lot and have a really different purpose ( ETH for example), almost every coins follows the exchange rate of bitcoin.
But I think in the future, it could change.
But no worries mate, now it is not the time when such a thing will happen. Cryptocurrencies have a bright future.
