I would definitely trust him. Make sure you're dealing with the right guy, don't make the mistake that others did and accept a "forwarded" message from the escrow.

And make sure he is him, many hacker got hold of some of the trusted member account after the Bitcoin forum recent hack...

how do i make sure he's not been hacked!?

 Honestly, he has done trades after the recent attack so you should be fine. But it's your judgement and no one elses.
