The mania over cryptocurrencies has gotten the attention of regulators. But currently, the S.E.C. and C.F.T.C. can only look on at what is happening.

The US government have already assigned people to look at Crypto currencies. They have also successfully traced some Crypto criminals, back to their crimes. The SEC are also monitoring the Alt coin scene and I suspect that strict regulations will follow soon. In the latest news the SEC announced that Crypto currency exchanges has to register with them. The US agency with the most active involvement in Crypto currency has to be the IRS. The tax authorities have their fingers in every Bitcoin pie.  |

Some of the lost BTC can't be found now since there are a lot of owners that bought it as early as 2009 lost the private key making those bitcoins unusable. Stolen or forgotten, it is lost forever. And from this, I do hope some of the members here can say clearly that bitcoin is not really anonymous since the government can track the transactions. |

While they can track your transactions eventually, for the average person that would be too many resources to allocate. Don't think everybody should fear that, I think mainly the big fish will get fried if caught doing shady stuff. |

Why would the governments need it if they are already adept in tracing wrong-doers be it crypto or fiat? Personally I think it would be another waste of taxpayer's money to implement such an idea since you already have an existing department dedicated in pursuing illicit activities committed in cyberspace. Why not just utilize those in order to save money and time in creating a new organization? Also, the governments are (hopefully) studying what kind of regulations they can impose in order to protect investors and traders from such kinds of scams and theft like the Mt. Gox fiasco.

They're not only seizing crypto used for illegal purposes (drugs etc), but they regularly auction the bitcoins they seize. The next US Marshalls auction is due on March 19th. |

There's no reason to create a crypto-cop in the least, that would just be a ton of government waste for what? For something that the SEC can do with one of their minor departments. Maybe the SEC will need some more funding, but it's nothing close to what a whole new department would cost for crypto -- but it wouldn't even be cost effective.
Kinda a waste and more government isn't needed for fixing this crypto 'problem'

If the government creates a crypto-cop people will react by creating a cop crypto lol. But seriously what do you mean exactly by crypto-cop, a special division of cybercrime? And from this, I do hope some of the members here can say clearly that bitcoin is not really anonymous since the government can track the transactions.
Everyone knows BTC is not anonymous other than the fact that you don't need to out your face and name to use it. |

In other words, the department, organization that is responsible for any cybercrimes includes the cryptoworld. In a more practical perspective, what you said is right. You can just make a division there or somewhat. Maybe just educate them as a whole of what these things are all about. |

there is a lot of explanation why and why not government creating a crypto cop. i was like on the they should not because how they can arrest the violator.

Crypto will attract the eye of development of scarier crypto cops for as long as cops AND fbi get reports and complaints by victims of crypto scammers and thieves.
They are legally supposed to deal with the influx of people with increasing crypto crimes against them, the only way to do that is to create better crypto cops
