EDIT: Since it wasn't clear, I don't own that long list of domains. That's what I meant by taking a pass, and saying they're open. They were unregistered at time of OP.

This will be a wide post, wasn't sure where it should go so put it here.

I have been extensively investigating and investing in domains for the past week. I understand the low opinion many have about domain hoarders, for good reason. However, I also believe that "you snooze, you lose" and I saw an opportunity just like others do when they buy a mining rig. But as part of my mission, I want to give back to the community and not be a domain douche. So I will develop what I can as I can, to where, if it comes time to sell I can offer a good site to an end user (a good one). We can work together to lessen the chances of corporate america getting to google with crap websites before we do with high-quality content. The last thing new bitcoin users need right now is a lot of content farming crap.

Q: Is it worth it for me to do what you did; get foggy eyed from trying every website I can think of for days on end?

I went through thinking of several hundred names that were already taken. I also came up with a couple hundred still available. Not that they all make economic sense. Trust me, the big generic ones are now pretty much reserved. Registry records indicate that there have been many recent acquisitions with btc-related words in the title. Many ORIGINAL names, however, are still available. They will, of course, take more work to stand out in search results, though.

Q: What's the best way to check if a domain is open?

http://instantdomainsearch.com/   It may run a day behind the ICANN registry, though.

Q So what sites ARE still available for registration?

Some that I won't reveal today that I want to keep to myself in case I want them in the future. If you find them and buy them, good! I like your thinking. Anything that a whois registy search reveals is available. Anything in the list below.

Q: You're still a dirty domain squatter

Whatever. Right now the value of my purchases are worth what I paid for them, or less, considering how from the incarnation of bitcoin to last week nobody wanted them. I took the risk with my money. If I want them to get traffic, I have to put more money and time in. If you're sitting on a lot of bitcoins because you think they will multiply in value, well, then you're a dirty btc squatter. There are only 6 million to go around right now! Anyways, I plan to be a good guy with all of this. No telling what kind of lame SCAM company could end up on google with my names if I wasn't able to make a move on my thoughts.

And, without further ado, here are currently open .COM top-level domain names I'm going to take a pass on. They are all available as of the time of this post. They get somewhat better in quality as you go down the list (imo). Some have business potential, some are more viable as your personal btc appreciation site. I would probably own a few for safekeeping for the community (aka I would sell to someone trustable here for little or no markup) if I hadn't already spent too much on regs.

I don't own these. I am not selling these. They are there for the taking. I just mulled over them.

With 'bitcoin' prefix: (Format: www. bitcoinword .com)
(goods) apparel,clothing,gear,condoms,sunglasses,bev,comp,
(lamer) yearbook, yes, ok, rolls, whybother, dispensary, marketbasket, recession, stability, endeavor/s, mission/s, build/s, handout/s, handbook/s, grab, chase, yield/s, know, wise, tycoon, everything, anything, skills, principles, things, methods, estimate/s, what, mission/s, quest/s, always, circles, collective, give, brackets (for next March), spin, easy, melt, wow, sense, truth, union, content, authority, brochure, returns, assets, budget, technology, sector, earnings, performance, evaluation, inventory, commodities,
(better) development (this should really be taken by someone involved in the community), middleman, story, history (again, belongs in the community), appreciation, zeitgeist, collective, arena, society, town, magnet, issues, generation (2 interpretations), bestpractices, ledger, assist, assistance, office, drawer, envelope, dropbox, guidance, tomorrow, tricks, happenings
(better, original:) headsortails, thatphrase, mineshaft, minetour/s (please someone pick this up and show off rigs),

With no prefix (Format: www. wordword . com)
bitcoinpimp, okbitcoin, bitcoinsyall, whattabitcoin, friendlybitcoin/s, gitbitcoins, somebitcoins, bitsforbites, bitsforbets, believeinbitcoin/s, mintbitcoins, acquirebitcoins,  considerbitcoin/s, discussbitcoin/s (maybe redirect to the forums), confusedaboutbitcoin/s, wespeakbitcoin, blamebitcoin, getwithbitcoin, realmenspendbitcoins, whatthebitcoin, lolbitcoin, othersideofthebitcoin,

If you pick up any of these sites because of seeing this post, say so in this thread. It is fun documenting the 'land grab' and I can edit the OP.

Sites that I DO own and want development on

bitcoinratings, bitcoinreviews, bitcoinupdates (.coms)

They should be the first results on google for the search terms in the title, and they should be able to pass muster with their equivalents in the non-bitcoin internet world. If you want to help more, we can talk about my programming/webmaster/advertising agent needs. I would like good graphic artists, or atleast to be set up with the right template for the job, allowing me to fill in the daily posts. Need a solid review/rating user submission system set up (I can moderate posts on the day to day). Would like some modules programmed that display streaming stats, and contributors for the updates site.

If you have all-around skills and find the potential of a name valuable, and I find your skills likewise impressive, we may be able to deal for you retaining most of advertising revenue in exchange for me keeping the domain ownership or most of it. One thing we can talk about is me transferring the ownership of one of my domains to you in exchange for work setting up another one.

(First post)

Sounds like a sensible plan to me. I'd much prefer someone with an interest in making bitcoin grow have those domains and invest in their content than an opportunistic link farm of some kind.

To that end, I've taken out bitcoin2gbp.com, gbp2bitcoin.com and bitcoin.co.uk with the intention of providing a mechanism to exchange between bitcoins and GBP (British Pounds) in some form.

I've have strong Java skills and some Android experience (growing every day) and I'm willing to contribute to open source projects associated with Bitcoin (or closed source for a solid share of both the risk and the reward). Anyone wanting to get hold of me to discuss opportunities please feel free to get in touch.

You can visit gary-rowe.com for more information and further links.

lol. had to edit OP. I think everyone misunderstood me and I just realized it. I only referenced 5 domains I own; the rest were available ones I merely brainstormed.

Today buying .com .net or .org domain is a waste of money and can get you in trouble. The USA is confiscating the domains who are involved in practices not liked by us goverment. The bitcoin will sure be outlawed in usa if it became sucess.

Go for regional domains in second world countries. bitcoin.ch bitcoins.is bitcoins.se are viable options.

bitcoinpimp.com
bitcointricks.com
getwithbitcoin.com

As soon as I get a spare $20 I might buy up a name and do something with it for fun, will report back on this thread if I do.

And  lacedwithkerosene, let me know when you can pay!  You have many sites I would love to do something for, I've seen enough of your domains anyways in so many threads lol  I have many many skills to bring to a table.

90% of these are now taken. lol

Did you just grab them? Smiley I just checked them a few minutes ago at GoDaddy...

I think maybe they're still in my order basket. I'll see if I can clear them out...

Update: Okay I've cleared my GoDaddy basket and have closed that browser window... maybe now they'll show up as available for you (or anyone that wants to buy).

Oh, no problem Cheesy There's actually a few there that I like, but I'm not buying at the moment (enough already), so I'll take my chances and come back to this list later if I need it.

ROFL. Alex, you've done the same thing I've done periodically (albeit, I was too lazy to post an update)

I was kinda bummed no one posted their registrations in this thread - maybe they didn't see it and their idea was parallel evolution.

irl attacking hard, taking care of shit.  Had to hold onto my btc and just keep watching my ticker on the phone praying no random news happened the past week lol.  It is good to see the forums haven't fallen apart, though I see reddit has gone through another change.

If I can arrange things in a few weeks, I might invest some cash in a certain Bitcoin novelty item btw Cheesy
