I don't know much about the US banking system but I am getting paid in USD from a US bank account.

So the best option would be to direct my payments to a reliable exchange (read: regulated, similar to Bitcoin Central in Europe) then do with the bitcoins whatever I want.

I know Mt.Gox is the biggest but who is behind it? Kind of shady to me. I'd rather have a regulated exchange. If I want anonymity I use a mixer but the exchange should be 100% clean.

Suggestions?

Supposed to be cheap as well.

I'm afraid your US (regulated) Bank is far shadier than any Bitcoin exchange.  Wink
MtGox are crap though, avoid them if you can - I use localbitcoins, safe & simple.
