Vitalik is pushing for Casper to go live, this will migrate Eth to proof of stake, which makes these ASICs obsolete.

As for price, I would rather argue that the price is dropping because the price is dropping.
People expect to become overnight millionaires with bitcoin, they expect it only goes up. As it goes down a bit more and more people start to panic sell, this then causes further selloffs.

The same goes for us hitting 20k USD per bitcoin, it went up because it was going up. I personally believe it went up way too fast to match its actual value. Bitcoin is a bit different from other markets, over here theres a bunch of amateurs such as myself trading these things. Many people get scared and greedy, over-investing more than they can afford to lose and panicking the second they lose faith in their 2 month "Moon lambo" plan.

ASICs though are something I and probably many people are against. I think it has killed bitcoin mining. Sure you can say we can all buy antminers, but who has a spare room in their house and the money to invest into air-cons and all that. ASICs reserve the market for the rich and do not let the average joe participate.

This might be the reason I can't tell. But I am sure this is not the main reason for Etherum dropping so hard. Ether is not the only one that dropped significantly from their ETH, every crypto mostly follows BTC when BTC is down other alts are probably doing worse. ASIC can be a bit problem and they surly are problem today. But what can you do about it? We have yet to see ethereum to include POS and Casper and this is now simply waiting game to see what will happen. Rumors are nothing until it is lunched.

Well, if such a situation really happens, then most likely the prices for ethereum tokens will definitely grow, because it will be something improved, well, that's what it looks like, so I think that's exactly how it will be.
