Is it safe to tell your bitcoin adress to someone?

Seems safe to me unless there's some way they can get into it (crappy brainwallet for example).

The only thing is if you give them like a cold storage address, and dont generate a new one, they will be able to see on the blockchain how much money you have.

You cannot steal address or bitcoins by just knowing Bitcoin address.
But you can monitor Bitcoin address ballance

Your bitcoin address only reveals how many bitcoins you have associated with it and your previous transactions. You may or may not have other addresses, so that does not even reveal your fortune, only a lower bound of it. Furthermore, your address is anonymous, so it is not associated with you. Bitcoin addresses are somewhat analogous to e-mail addresses in this aspect. Knowing a certain bitcoin address gives no access to it whatsoever.

I don't really get what's the problem with that. It's like reveiling just another address, isn't it? This should just be a problem for anonymity or do I get something wrong?

That still wouldn't hinder the safety of bitcoin as a whole.  Thats just you being worried about your personal information.

A bitcoin address works with a public and private key pair. The public key pair is made to be public and you can show it wherever you want. The private one, is of course to be kept secret  (And they are stored in the wallet.dat file)
