I bet it was stolen in Russia. TSA has nothing to do with it. TSA will cut your lock only if it is not TSA compatible AND they see something on Xray machine. They will call you before they take anything.

If they were lost after you arrived in the US, it is possible the TSA might have randomly searched the luggage and taken the chips because they couldn't figure out what they were. Usually they leave a notice in the suitcase when they do this kind of thing, but not always.
Do they cut locks? Yes they do. That is the reason, shops here in Airports sell TSA approved locks. These locks can be opened using a master key which all TSA personnel will have. If you use those locks, they will not break it. Else they will.! I have had the experience.

I had 2 BFL sample chips stolen out of my mailbox, along with an AVR Dragon in a separate package. I'm pretty sure that whoever took them has no idea wtf either item is. I don't wish them cancer or castration. Instead I wish for them to see the error of their ways, and to learn to change them. I guess I'm not very Russian at heart.

Sad thing is they prob threw them in the trash because they had no clue what they did.

Heh, very elaborate message for the Russian customs... Do you think they read this forum? If nothing else was stolen, and it wasn't inside job, you didn't lose them, TSA didn't steal them, then one of the customs workers knew what those chips were.. Sorry for your loss, man

I hope that you and your kids get cancer. The kids can't help it that they have assholes for parents so take pity on them. Karma will get the parents sooner or later and then the kids will likely become orphans.

@OP
I feel bad for you.
@All
just stop generating ideas how he could lost it. It was stolen. He knows this. I know this. Because we are both Russians. I know that the admitting the fact that people working in Russian airports are doing things like this is not really good for myself but what I can do if it is truth? They used to do, they do, and they will do, it seems.
The really strange thing is that chips are gone, but the other stuff like iPhone is not.
Edit. To be honest, I miss the ancient times when the one convicted was getting his right hand chopped off. On next evidence - his left hand...

Yeah, because mutilation is a fitting punishment for a minor property crime! Oh, wait... Good thing is, people like you don't decide the punishments anymore. It's called progress.

I've had cases opened at DME. The baggage handlers go through them looking for whatever. With mine they couldn't be bothered to zip the bag up. Security then put some tape around the bag to stop the contents falling out too much hassle to zip it. Its likely the same happened but security where more kind to you than me a re-zipped the bag for you. In the process anything small could of fallen out.

Yes, it is a progress in its definition. By the way, what progress did to the people in last ten-fifteen years? Just ask 100 people in the street how much is nine by seven. You will be shocked.

No, it is not a progress, it is progress. As in, we have progressed past the point when mutilation was accepted as a fitting punishment for such minor crimes. And for good reason. For the rest, what does that have to do with mutilation? Do you suggest we start cutting body parts off people who fail at mathematics too?

I don't. The fact I miss it _sometimes_ does not meant that I want it. I have four kids. Three of them adults already. I managed to grew them up without resorting to use of belt a single time. So, I believe that it is possible to develop a society without such a brutal laws. But _sometimes_ the only way you see is that. Edit: I'm sorry, I reviewed the post we are discussing now and see that I did not express myself precisely: _sometimes_ is missed while I meant to say "_sometimes_ I miss..."
