Public Pyramids... really?

I just saw tha there are some of these public Bitcoin pyramid groups:

In my opinion, that kind of stuff will only be bad for the Bitcoin image worldwide, such as othe illegal usage of the coin. Is it normal for non-newbies folks use this algorithims to make money? Isn't there anything we can do to stop this?
